Extinct Actors

Posted in Life, Philophy on July 13, 2008 by Ryan

As the commercial age is coming to a close and the broadcasting age is under way we see many changes that were once unthinkable since such a magnitude of change would be impossible because of the insufficient forms of media. But it is happening to the acting world right before our dilated pupils. More and more frequently I have watched commercials with “real people” such as the Geico commercials or the Volkswagen with their talking Bug. These acts of modernism suggest a more YouTube feel to T.V., and allow the audience to relate. It makes them feel that the product is better because people like them use it. Movies aside, today’s people don’t want an actor’s opinion on their products because too many of them don’t personally use them. So why did we need actors in the first place? In the early days of T.V. and advertising the actors did use the products and were more blue-collar, if you will, than today. So the audience looked up to them to set the trend. But now in an internet dominated world more people buy the products advertised by real people.

Clothes Reputation

Posted in Life, Philophy, Uncategorized with tags , , on June 24, 2008 by Ryan

Do the clothes someone wears make them who they are? Or does the person wearing the clothes give them a trendy feel? In the school that I go to everyone who can afford It wears American Eagle designer clothes. But if someone high on the social ladder wears high socks and short shorts, does his reputation take a hit or do the high socks represent a new trend? Schools are generally pretty faithful to the saying that “The nail that sticks out, gets hammered down”. When someone gets a new shirt that doesn’t fit the acceptable threads its a big deal. Although if the person has more followers than not the fashion oops evolves into a new trend. We as a culture have fallen into a groove that relies on others to set the tone of what we wear. Thats why I make a point to try to be different in my clothes. It may not be the most popular thing to do but I’d rather be different than be just another link in the chain.

New Magazine

Posted in Cars on May 14, 2008 by Ryan

I love to read magazines about cars. My personal favorite is Motor Trend. It is a glimpse at the look in the near future of cars and concepts of new cars. It is a really a good magazine but it doesn’t quench my thirst for a magazine for modifying, and customizing cars. Thats where the magazine Super Chevy comes in,El Camino it gives a good source of tips for a person who needs his car to be unique. It gives a monthly feature on how to put in a new exhaust system for your 1967 El Camino. For those of you who don’t know what an El Camino looks like heres a picture, it looks like a pickup which rear-ended a sedan and fused together. Now back on subject, Super Chevy is very good at adding leafs to my expanding, mental library of car experience. The only thing wrong with the magazine is it is too complicated for a car enthusiast like me with little knowledge that comes with age. Not really big things but when the magazine refers to something called a “transmission pan” it does not register in my mind as a part that I know. So what do I do then? I usually go to my father and ask him because he has had 14 years experience of the mechanic trade. Then what happens to all the rest of the American population that has the need for this info but doesn’t have the resources parents not in that line of work, internet not clear, books expensive, or whatever the reason I have a solution. I plan on making a magazine that is made for teens like us, who like cars, need info, and can’t get it anywhere else. Comment if you would read it or give me feedback on departments for the magazine.

Dream Car

My dad is a mechanic so I got born into the trade of cars and have never lost my love for the machines, but I didn’t develop my love for Firebirds until I was twelve. I got an Xmod car that was a Firebird and it was the coolest car I had ever seen, with the exception of my fathers 88′ Corvette.
There also was a Firebird right outside my neighborhood where I could see it everyday going to school, but it got sold within four months. So I felt bad about how not having enough money to buy my dream car. Although when I looked on the bright side I realized that a rag top convertible wasn’t the best car for a starter-car. Thats because a rag top car, if flipped, can crush the driver. It was too early to get it anyway too. I wouldn’t be able to drive it which is what you obviously want to do with a car.

Sports Cancelled?

Posted in Philophy, Sports on May 13, 2008 by Ryan

More and more sports are starting to advertise on television to boost their viewers and attendees who go to games. NASCAR, the NHL, and the NFLs playoffs are just a few of the sports who have recently been advertising all that they have to offer. NASCAR and the NHL has openly complained about a decrease in viewers in the last few years. So why not, like a scripted TV show, cancel the broadcasting of the sport? I believe that if we keep traveling down the path we are then sports will be replaced on TV by other scripted “sports entertainment”. Such shows as the WWE, American Gladiator and the TNA are some of the shows that imitate sports but are fixed. That’s what seperates sports entertainment with real sports. In real sports a close and exciting game is something to look forward to, and not something to happen every time. But a close match in sports entertainment is expected and must keep getting closer, faster and more exciting until contraversy and “feuds” with opponents. The canceling of sports won’t happen anytime soon but it is a possibility if Americans continue this craving for the latest Big Brother and not the World Series.

Corvettes,Corvettes,Corvettes

I just returned from Carlisle Pennsylvania where the biggest Corvette show in the country is. I think that it’s sort-of like Woodstock because everyone is there to have a good time and no one robs anyone, people help one another and talk to people that they don’t know. I took 275 pictures of corvettes and that was only ten percent of all the corvettes there. My father and I are building a 1975 Stingray for my mom which is taking forever because he doesn’t have the time. We saw a 1975 that was really nice and almost bought it but that would defeat the purpose of us building a corvette. For those who don’t know what Carlisle looks like here is a YouTube video that are at Carlisle. At the show their was a Dyno machine that keeps the car stationary and the wheels are on a conveyor belt sort-of thing and it tested its horsepower. This YouTube video shows a C5 with a supercharger on the Dyno machine. My father and I were on the other side of the machine looking at the horsepower which toped out at 505, more than twice the power of a 06′ BMW! Also their was a burnout competition which took out the quarter panel of a brand new C6. That video here.

Baseball vs. Brother

Posted in Life, Sports on August 23, 2007 by Ryan

My first blog entry is about yesterday and it’s “incident.” We have a backstop and it keeps balls from going into the woods, which is downhill. So my brother is pitching to me and it is right down the middle, he doesn’t pitch well so I’ll take what I can get. So this pitch is just a beauty and the hit was a beauty that Derek Jeter would be proud of. Right back to where it was delivered. Knocks him to the ground. Hit him right under his eye on his cheek bone. Had a black eye but he just shook it off. You could see the laces imprinted on his cheek. So in the end he didn’t go to the hospital and he just had a swollen cheek. Now he won’t pitch real baseballs to me. For good reason, dont get me wrong, but at least he can pitch me a wiffle ball!
